DEVELOPMENT HISTORY

Scarborough Town Centre opens. The gleaming new 130-store shopping centre and the adjacent civic centre buildings provide something previously lacking in this rapidly growing city of 200,000-- a vibrant “downtown” core, a “beating heart.”

The twin level, Y-shaped Shopping Centre features a Centre Court with a giant turntable built into the floor, and two secondary courts; one with a captivating water fountain bubbling tubes, and the other with colourful hot air balloons rising and falling over a tranquil pool. Originally anchored by Eaton’s, Simpsons and Miracle Food Mart, Scarborough Town also boasted one of the few Brewers Retail Stores located within a Shopping Centre, and the first to contain a completely refrigerated storeroom.
