Dr. Charles C. Macklin (1883-1959)

Scarborough born scientist, Dr. Charles C. Macklin was an internationally recognized authority in the field of pulmonary histology, physiology and pathology. Dr. Macklin's original observations on the structure and function of the lung provided the basis for much that has come after in the field of pulmonary research. A dedicated investigator during his long career of 32 years at the University of Western Ontario, Dr. Macklin published close to 200 articles, including numerous publications linking cigarette smoking to bronchial cancer. Much of Dr. Macklin’s work on the dynamics of the lung and the mechanisms underlying pulmonary emphysema are recognized as classics in medical literature and principles derived from them are used widely in clinical medicine.
